Hey family and friends! Catching up on posting from the first days in Scotland. We have been received well by crystal blue skies, fish and chips, left handed roads, and whisky.
For those that don’t know – surprise! – I’m in Scotland. I am joining Becca(my romantic partner) on a cycling trip down the UK’s east coast to London. Becca has recently completed 4 years of full-on medical study to become an MD in Obgyn and will soon start residency at OHSU in Portland, Oregon. To celebrate and honor this effort and enjoy a respite, she is traveling for ~6 weeks in Ireland, UK, and France. Becca’s first ten or twelve days were spent solo hiking and traveling the Dingle peninsula and Dublin.
On April 29 we both flew in to Edinburgh where we begin our cycling jaunt to London – about 470 miles across 17 days – maybe further, maybe shorter, maybe with a bus or train along the way. London is our destination but the goals are to explore the countryside, enjoy each other’s company and have fun.
Now for trip report day one!
-Great cabbie driver explaining Edinburgh’s development and warning us of the “Medgies” a terrifying mosquito like bug with the teeth of a piranha
-Setting up the bikes
-Meandering through stone facade streets peeking into 300 year old pubs and eating a Scottish chicken and gravy pie
-a beautiful city park
-listening to a bagpiper in a pub in the evening
Now for a few photos and video->
